European Parliament support calls of demonstrators for re-run of Duma elections
Ahead of today´s EU-Russia summit and in the context of a European Parliament´s resolution on Russia, the Greens have called on the EU to support the calls of opposition demonstrators for a re-run of the disputed Duma elections. Green MEP and vice-chairman of the EP delegation for EU-Russia cooperation Werner Schulz commented: I am happy, that the European Parliament approved today our amendment on the re-run of the elections. The EU aims to promote democratic values and the rule of law in its dealings with its partners. It is time to deliver on this.
Voters refuse to blindly follow Putin
Following the elections to the Russian State Duma on the 4th December, Vladimir Putin's "United Russia" party lost its two-thirds majority in the parliament and around 12 Million of its previous voters. Commenting on the results, Green MEP and member of the foreign affairs committee Werner Schulz said:

What significant developments and decisions were taken since Magnitsky's death, almost two years ago?
Sergey Magnitsky's death on 16 November 2009 caused discussions and reactions in Russian and international politics nobody had expected. As an attorney of American-owned law firm Firestone Duncan (a law firm hired by the Hermitage Foundation) and person who believed in justice, Sergey reported a tax fraud of 230 million dollars (5.4 billion rubles) in 2007. Nobody could think his discovery and testimony would lead to imprisonment of more than 11 months without a trial and eventually to his death.
